Acupuncture Physician: My name is Andrew Walsh, my first experience with acupuncture was at 14 years of age when my Father began using Dutch Veterinarian who used acupuncture to our stressed and injured thoroughbred racehorses. In the first acupuncture treatment for an injured back, I saw the Vet press the horses back until he found the injured area, which made the horse tightened and jump. He then found a point on the horse leg that made it flinch and inserted a needle into the spot. He went back and put pressure on the horses injured back, and it never tightened or jumped, it appeared the horse no longer felt as much pain. He continued to put needles in and around the area of the injury, and after a few minutes, the horse went so relaxed it looked it was asleep standing up. The horse had several more treatments and began training and winning races again. Over the years, the Vet treated many more of our horses, and my interest grew in the phenomena of Acupuncture. I got my first opportunity to try acupuncture myself for a dislocated my Shoulder and I choose a Japanese Acupuncturist to see if acupuncture could reduce the pain and speed up my recovery as seen with horses. The acupuncturist found the painful injured area tested the range of movement, then located a sore point on my arm and then put in a thin needle it. The acupuncturist rechecked the pain and motion of the shoulder, and I could feel an immediate reduction of pain and increase in mobility. After my first treatment, my plans in becoming a Veterinarian changed and I have been studying acupuncture for humans since. After graduation and licensing as an acupuncture physician in Australia in 1997, I went into private practice and also teaching Acupuncture for the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia. In 1999, I completed a 1-year postgraduate certification in a medical-based acupuncture course that was also additionally taught to physicians at Harvard Medical University in Boston. In 2005, I left Australia to spend the next five years in China, Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia training local alternative medicine organizations and therapists in modern clinical practices and techniques. This time in Asia provided a 1st hand opportunity to research further into unraveling the cultural and superstitious foundations that still permeate the understanding and practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine in many countries like America today. With ambitions to continue traveling, I began practicing acupuncture on cruise ships in Europe, North America, and the Caribbean, which eventually lead me to move to the United States. I am currently on the Faculty of The American School Of Natural Medicine and recently relocated to Orlando, Florida and seeing patients at Acupuncture Orlando located inside Orlando Body & Movement Therapy.
