Shamokin, Pennsylvania may seem like a sleepy town but don’t let the size fool you! With more than 100 years of history to be explored here, you will not be disappointed, especially if you are a first time visitor. Once a coal-mining town, Shamokin later became home to the largest textile building in the U.S., the largest ticket company in the U.S. and the Edison Illuminating Company. Thomas Edison was a brief resident of nearby Sunbury and he personally wired St. Edward’s Catholic Church, the first church in the world to have electricity. Exploring historic sites can build up an appetite and we’ve got the perfect remedy here at 8th Street Café – home cooked meals in (what else?) a historic quaint café. We serve homemade soups, sandwiches, Panini’s, wraps, and pierogi’s. For breakfast we make homemade omelets, biscuits and gravy and even pancakes.
